Product Description
How long does it take to decide if a person is hot?
Is your lover more likely to get you pregnant than your husband?
Can men tell when a woman is fertile?

If you?ve ever wondered how scientists measure love?or whether men really prefer blondes over brunettes?this smart, sexy book provides real answers to these and many other questions about our most baffling dating and mating behaviors. Based on the latest research in biology, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, and cognitive science, Do Gentlemen Really Prefer Blondes? dares to explain the science behind sex?and opens a fascinating window on the intriguing phenomenon of love and attraction.

Covering the areas of bodies, brains, and behavior, this eye-opening guide reveals the genetic, hormonal, and psychological secrets behind what makes us tick sexually. For example, do you know why a man?s body chemistry and behavior change when he?s in a committed relationship? And why, when he becomes a daddy, his testosterone level seems to plummet? And did you know?

? When a couple first fall in love, their brains are indistinguishable from those of the clinically insane
? You can tell a lot about a person?s sexual chemistry just by looking at his or her hands
? Your genes influence whose body odors you prefer
? Being around breast-feeding women may increase a woman's sex drive

Viewed through the lens of science and instinct, your love life might be seen in a completely different way. Do Gentlemen Really Prefer Blondes? provides both an in-depth exploration into our sexual psyches?and fresh advice for men and women who want to discover the secrets of successful relationships.

4 out of 5 stars Very good, though off putting avid belief in evolution throughout.   January 8, 2009

This book was almost exactly what i expected. It arrived clean, new and completely up to date.
The book is full of interesting facts and is well written and easy to understand. Mainly based on scientific fact (which is very appealing to me) it combines established fact with quirky experimentative new progressions in science.
One down point, however, is the authors convictions about the theory of evolution. The only hint of exactly how convicted the author Jena Pincott was on the basis of evolution is on the back cover where it merely says "Jena Pincott has a background in biology" which doesn't (now i may be alone here) suggest to me that she is an avid believer in the evolution theory. I was slightly annoyed and disappointed that she often makes reference to our ape "ancestors". I now understand belief in evolution comes with the territory of biology.
Overall it makes a good read with little, easy to remember facts.

5 out of 5 stars Gentlemen do prefer blondes   December 22, 2008

A very good book written in a layman's format so it is easier to digest the scientific information, concerning why we love and why are attracted to some and not to others. I thought it was well written and not very long, so a an easy read.

4 out of 5 stars Attractive on Many Levels   December 5, 2008

Must-reading for men even though it's mainly addressed to women--and should make a good gift any time of year. Guys, find out how much they really know about us--more than we know ourselves! Smart, witty, thoughtful accounts of why we're attracted (or not) to how would-be mates smell, on the sexiness of humor and how love changes your brain, why curves are sexy, and much more. Question-and-answer format makes for easy episodic reading: Pick it up and start anywhere, read a few pages, then come back later for more surprises. Light, breezy writing that is also satisfying to readers interested in science and psychology. This would make a good gift to or from either sex--for someone whose smell turns you on, or whose eye color you find alluring and you want to know why . . . Now, back to The Racy Parts . . .

5 out of 5 stars Enlightening, Informative, and Creative   December 4, 2008

A mixture of scientific studies and contemporary Sex in the City type escapades in Do Gentlemen Really Prefer Blondes provides a casual reader with easy to understand answers to contemporary questions regarding the science behind sex, love and attraction. Questions with a short, complete, and to the point answer format draws the reader into topics that one always wanted to know the answer to, as well as to new topics that one wants to have answered. It is obvious from reading Do Gentlemen Really Prefer Blondes? that the author put a lot of thought, research and time into writing this creative and enlightening book.

Having read Success: Advice for Achieving Your Goals from Remarkably Accomplished People and Healing: Advice for Recovering Your Inner Strength and Spirit From the World's Most Famous Survivors, two previously published, interesting and well written books by Jena Pincott, I am delighted to add this informative new book to my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing book!!! Perfect gift for your girlfriends!   November 29, 2008

I absolutely LOVED this book. I found myself compulsively quoting parts of the book in subsequent conversations and referencing study after study giving friends relationship advice. It's packed with numerous anecdotes, factoids and reveals so much about human sexual behavior and what biological imperatives drive our preferences in dating. The book is so insightful and interesting I bought copies for all of my girlfriends...definitely a great conversation starter! Its packaged really well to appeal to a wide readership - a breezy read that's well-written, substantive and refreshingly fast-paced. If you have any interest in evolutionary biology, you may already be familiar with some of the studies referenced (like how your partner smells is important, and if monogamy is natural) and then there are some really fascinating lesser known studies on how the length of your index finger is an indicator of your testosterone levels...and on and on....The book is really packed with so much stuff that I am reading it again for a refresher! HIGHLY recommended.

The writer also has a very good blog, for those of you who are interested in the topic of evolutionary biology, that she updates quite frequently. It's featured on Amazon's site, but you can view it off her website directly - as there are new studies coming out almost daily: http://jenapincott.wordpress.com/
