| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description For many, the ultimate expression of spirituality is charity. And for years, people have been crafting prayer shawls - knitted wraps to comfort those in times of need and to help others celebrate special occasions. Written by the two women at the heart of this groundswell of charity knitting, The Prayer Shawl Companion presents 38 wondrous wraps for all occasions, from baptism to remembrance. The book includes easy, intermediate, and challenging patterns for such inspiring creations as The Calming Shawl, and the Friendship Patchwork Shawl, and many more. Since knitting itself can be a gloriously spiritual activity, Bristow and Cole-Galo also offer advice on creating a peaceful creative environment and include heartwarming stories to and from shawl recipients. Professional knitwear designers like Kaffe Fassett and Nicky Epstein have donated more than 10 patterns.

Wonderful Resource December 20, 2008 I was a little nervous when I ordered this book, wondering if it would really have anything to offer me, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is the kind of book that multi-tasks in a wide range of ways. Not only is the book a thoughtful and interesting work of prayer shawl information and ideas, but it also is very inclusive. Primarily Christian in tone, it does allow for all faiths, touching on several other major belief systems throughout. The book doesn't beat you over the head with a bible, but instead shows how faith, or even just letting someone know you're thinking of them, can touch lives in profound ways. All faiths, even no-faith crafters, have something to offer the recently grieving or celebrating recepient.
And, faith aside, if you're looking for thicker yarn wraps to make as gifts then this is the book for you. There are plenty of beginner (or time friendly) projects as well as some that are a bit more challenging.
All in all I'm glad I bought this book sight unseen. It is heartfelt, thoughtful, and an all around good resource for those who would give warm and thick shawls as gifts... whatever the reason.
Prayer Shawl December 17, 2008 Fantastic! What a pleasant surprise! Not only does this book describe in great deal what prayer shawls are, but it is a big, thick book with fantastic instructions, full page color pictures and prayers!
Grrrreat!!! December 16, 2008 Great book! Not only does it have great patterns, but it has suggestions for starting a prayer shawl ministry, as well as wonderful stories, poems & blessings. A 5 star!
PRAYER SHAWL December 3, 2008 I HAVE ENJOYED THIS BOOK AND HAVE MADE SEVERAL SHAWLS. THEY ARE EASY AND FAST TO MAKE. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT FOR ANY NOVICE KNITTER AND THE BEGINNER. IT IS AN EASY READ..DONNA HOUCK
I love this book!! November 25, 2008 Beautiful book, beautiful patterns, beautiful prayers. I found many patterns in this book that I am excited to knit. Much more challenging for more experienced knitters than the typical k3,p3 pattern. I have shared this book with members of my prayer shawl knitting and knitting groups. We all love it!!
